From Tin Roofs to Transformation: My Journey of Grit, Reinvention, and Purpose

I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and educators,  builders of businesses and builders of people. My grandparents owned an electrical store when electricity itself was new.

My entrepreneurial journey began at sixteen… on top of a tin roof.

I was working two jobs — flipping burgers and cleaning motel rooms — when I earned two weeks’ pay in half a day painting a roof. That moment changed everything. With paint still in my hair, I became an entrepreneur. I was hiring crews, bidding for jobs, and running a painting company while putting myself through college full-time. I graduated debt-free with a Master’s degree in Social Work.

I became a therapist because I wanted to help people transform their lives and I loved the work. But over time, burnout set in. The system felt limiting. I realized I didn’t need to stop helping people… I just needed a different vehicle to do it.

Seven months pregnant with my son, Cameron, I pivoted completely. I became a personal trainer, lost 34 pounds in three months, and built a thriving fitness business with sixteen trainers.

Then life tested me again.

I faced divorce, debt, single motherhood, and financial hardship especially during the 2008 market crash when my industry nearly collapsed. Determined to rebuild, I invested deeply in personal development, hiring coaches, taking courses, and searching for answers.

And what I discovered changed my life: Every path led back to me.
The real transformation was an inside job.

In 2010, I overcame my own battles with weight and sugar addiction, became a fitness competitor, and created programs to help others transform. By 2014, I published my first bestselling book and launched my first online coaching programs. My business scaled into multiple revenue streams, women’s conferences, corporate consulting, and national speaking.

But my greatest fulfillment didn’t come from business growth, it came from service.

I began fundraising, supporting charities, chairing galas, and hosting events for causes close to my heart, from housing for women in need to educational resources for children in Africa.

Giving back became central to my mission.

When the world shut down in 2020, I helped businesses pivot online and published Virtual Wealth, another bestseller focused on navigating virtual entrepreneurship.

In 2021, I met my husband, John. Together, we’ve built a beautiful blended family and a life grounded in impact, philanthropy, and purpose.
